80's Flashback: Blood Camp Thatcher AKA Turkey Shoot (1982)

Let me take you back, back to a time where little movies could sit on the shelves next to blockbusters. Movies that would not have seen the light of day before the arrival of VHS arrived on the shelves of video stores across the UK. One such movie was Blood Camp Thatcher (AKA Escape 2000, Turkey Shoot).

A million years ahead of it's time, Blood Camp Thatcher is a little bit similar to The Hunger Games. Unlike Hunger Games the game players in this movie are in prison, many for crimes they never committed. Each season chosen by the warden, a group of prisoners must fight for their lives, if they survive they escape, if they get caught death will often be slow and gruesome.

Like a lot of low budget movies, Blood Camp Thatcher somehow managed to secure big movie names, Olivia Hussey, Steve Railsback, Noel Ferrier, and Michael Craig took up pivotal roles. The hunters are hideous individuals, some mutated, some sexual deviants. If you felt that The Hunger Games never quite went far enough, and Battle Royale was not gory enough... Welcome to the world of Blood Camp Thatcher.
