American Horror Asylum Touches Willowbrook Reality

If you are a regular reader of this site you'll know that a few weeks ago I covered Cropsey, a documentary about an Urban Myth that essentially became true. Part of that story covered Willowbrook  an asylum that dealt with the over 5000 people with learning difficulties. In the documentary it covered a brief history of this institute, that was grossly underfunded, and uncared for.

Some weeks ago when American Horror Story Asylum aired the episode The Name Game, it first hit me the comparison between Briarcliff (the fictional institute) and Willowbrook. In the final episode of the series (which aired last week) there was a clear pointer, with the character of Lana replacing Geraldo as the exposing reporter.

If you are interested in watching some real life horror, you can find Willowbrook: The Last Disgrace a documentary from 1971 below.

The documentary has been uploaded onto Youtube by a user, its in two parts, click both starting with the video above to see the full documentary.
