80's Flashback: Robocop

Dead or alive, you're coming with me!

Back in 1987, Robocop was pretty much the coolest movie anyone had ever seen. To a very impressionable 14 year old it was amazing.

This ultra-violent movie directed by Paul Verhoeven, is set several decades in our future. Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) starts his first session working as a police officer in Old Detroit, but it's not a joyous day, and a few hours into his shift he is violently murdered by a gang. Luckily OCP the company that run the local police force, have need of a dead cop in order to launch their Robocop program.

It was ahead of it's time, but to be honest it has badly dated especially in the special effects department. It's not surprisingly being remade, but dated or not Robocop is still an enjoyable movie. It's incredibly violent, at times disturbing, but an awful lot of fun.

Fans of TV's Twin Peaks will get a buzz from the high volume of familiar faces.
