80's Flashback: Beverly Hills Cop

It's seldom mentioned now, but back in 1984 Beverly Hills Cop was an incredibly big thing. Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) a rough and ready cop heads to Beverley Hills after his close friend is murdered. Looking for clues to the killing Axel finds that cop life between his home town of Detroit, and Beverly Hills are a million miles apart.

Beverly Hills Cop was merchandising gold, anything associated with the movie, including its soundtrack sold like hot cakes.

It faced stiff criticism back in the day for it's obscene language, at the time it featured more swearing than any movie ever. When it was shown for the first time on BBC 1 in the UK during Christmas 1987, they made the interesting move of editing out all the swearing and showing the movie as part of prime time family viewing.
