So lets take a look at
what is on offer:-
Sinister – A novelist
(Ethan Hawke) uses found footage to discover how his family was murdered in
their new home.
The Possession – From
producer Sam Raimi comes something very different, when a young girl purchases
a trinket box at a garage sale she is taken control of by an evil spirit, the
girls parents rush to find a way to free her.
Maniac – One of the
most notorious video nasties of all time gets a modern day remake, as a bitter killer
takes control over the city. Elijah Wood stars as the killer who scalps, and
peels off the skin of his victims to make the ultimate creation.
American Mary – A
young medical student turns to the alternative and underground world of surgery
for cash, and becomes increasingly warped by her tolerance levels.
V/H/S – A group of
good kids turned bad are sent into a house to retrieve a strange and rare
videotape, they do not understand the implications of their actions as both the
house, and the tape hide some terrible secrets.
The Seasoning House –
A movie that harks back to the explotative 70’s, stars Sean Pertwee in this
tale of military prostitution, and something far more sinister.
Tower Block – A group
of occupants of a skyrise block of apartments find themselves the victim of a
sniper – Stars Sheridan Smith and Russell Tovey.
Berberian Sound Studio
– Emotionally unsettling thriller based around a studio sound technician’s
work, another 70’s inspired piece with more than a passing homage to many of
horrors classic tales.
Grabbers – Russell
Tovey pops up again to stand as defence against an alien invasion on a small
island of the Irish Coast.
Cockney’s Verses
Zombies – A zombie invasion begins, with an old peoples home the first line of
sight. See Richard Briars and Honor Blackman rack up a variety of weapons to
fight off the zombie horde, zimmer frames essential.
Guinea Pigs –
Cancelled from last years Frightfest as the movie simply was not ready see Alex
Reid (yes the former Mr Katie Price) become one of several lab rats for a
disturbing new drug.
Stitches – Years ago a
clown was murdered by a group of party goers in a tragic accident, now when the
memory of his death begins to fade he makes an alarming return.
Sawney: Flesh Of Man –
Scottish locals uncover a family of Cannibals who have fed off the fat of
Scotland (quite literally) for over a thousand years.
May I Kill You – Move
over Maniac Cop, there is a new killer in town.
Before Dawn - In an attempt to save their failing marriage,
a couple head for a rural retreat to work on rebuilding their lives, its just a
shame they picked a location filled with zombies.
The Inside – Having
spent two years in limbo, The Inside is finally here! A group of twenty
something women are taking some much needed time out, only to discover that
they are being pursued by sinister tramps; but this is nothing compared to the
much less worldly horror that lies ahead.
Community – Basildon,
Essex is a scary place at the best of times, but mix it with a sprinkle of
something not of this world, and its even more terrifying.
Tulpa – In 2009
Federico Zampaglione bought us a glimpse of horror you really did not want to
see (in a good way) in the gripping Shadow, now Zampaglione is moving away from
the horror into the Giallo in this fresh, cutting edge thriller, so hot off the
press even IMDB does not yet have an entry for it, and if Shadow is anything to
go by, this is going to be just amazing.
Paura 3D – Highly
acclaimed Italian shocker in which a group of rock musicians score a retreat to
an isolated villa, as you can expect this is not the dream it appears to be.
Eurocrime – Sticking
in Italy, Eurocrime is a cutting edge documentary that looks the Italian Crime
thrillers (Rings of Fear, What Have They Done To Your Daughters) of the 70’s.
Rec 3 – Genesis – The
found footage franchise takes an alarming new turn in an all new location. Now
we find something more terrifying than the dark, daylight.
Sleep Tight – Spanish
thriller that takes the home siege movie to a brand new, terrible dimension.
Hidden In The Woods –
Raised in isolation two girls are invaded by every day life, and they don’t
adapt well to the change. Much acclaim is being given to this oddball thriller
that is like a mash up of the Godfather and Wrong Turn.
Kill Zombie! –
Amsterdam based zombi, comedy horror set in a word far more distasteful than
our usual Amsterdam assumptions.
Dead Sushi – No
information is available yet on this apparently ground breaking Japanese horror
tale.
We Are The Night –
German based vampire thriller about a covern of vamps who take in a new
playmate.
Errors Of The Human
Body – No Information yet.
Under The Bed – For
many kids the greatest fear is under their bed, or in their wardrobe, this low
budget shocker follows two brothers as they attempt to kill the creature that
lives beneath the place they sleep.
After – What starts as
a bus crash, turns far worse as the two survivors awake to discover that
everyone in their town is dead, these two enemies must work together to survive
something far worse than they have ever encountered before.
The Thompson –
Theoretically compared to Near Dark, this vampire horror focuses on a notorious
vampire clan who having exhausted all options open to then, flee to the UK to
start a new life, and find another centuries old vampire clan; what they find
however is worse than they ever imagined.
Remnants (Of A
Disaster) – When the world falls in the wake of a terrible virus a scientist
and a psychopath work together to rebuild mankind, or do they?
Elevator – Trapped in
a lift together (ala The Devil) a group of strangers battle against racism, and
prejudice to survive… If only life was that easy.
A Night Of Nightmares
– From Buddy Giovinazzo (director of Combat Shock) comes a new grubby horror,
again so fresh you wont find anything about this movie online.
The Victim – Michael
Biehn (The Divide/Aliens) stars as Kyle a loner who keeps his own council in a
woodland retreat. But some hot talent soon spins his life on its head.
Nightmare Factory – A
gripping and enlightening look at the world of special effects in horror.
Outpost II: Black Sun –
Nazi Zombie sequel to the much praised Outpost.
Wrong Turn 4 – Yet
another in the popular series.
Nightbreed: The Cabal
Cut – A chance to look at a drastically re-edited version of Clive Barkers 1990
horror classic.
On the third screen
you’ll be able to catch a live directors commentary of last years smash Inbred.
Crawl, The Arrival Of Wang, and restored versions of The Devil Rides Out,
Rasputin The Mad Monk, The Mummy’s Shroud and The Bride Of Frankenstein.
Andy Nyman returns
with yet another quiz, and we also get to see the best short films to have been
made over the last twelve months.
But bigger than
anything else, a legend is setting foot at The Empire and Frightfest for the
first time, Dario Argento will appear as Total Film’s Movie Icon. Argento will
be interviewed by Jamie Graham, and quizzed by the audience. Argento is a
legend in the horror industry remaining popular to his legion of fans for 5
decades.
